Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) is a private academic and research institution. Its first campus, named Escuela Municipal de Manila, was a public primary school founded by the Society of Jesus in 1859 in Intramuros, Manila. In 1865, the administration of the Escuela Municipal changed its name to Ateneo Municipal de Manila. It was also during this year that Ateneo Municipal became an institute of secondary education.

Ateneo became a private institution during the American regime. In 1909, the school changed its name to Ateneo de Manila. In 1932, the campus moved to Padre Faura, Ermita. In 1925, Ateneo moved to its current location along Katipunan Avenue, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Seventy years later, Ateneo became a university.

Today, ADMU is home to Filipino values and continuously addresses social problems around the country. From the Basic to Graduate educational levels, the Atenean education serves as a key to open the minds of the students that they are the solutions to the ills of society. Basic Education is divided into three levels: Elementary, Junior High, and Senior High. The Grade School and Junior High School Department of ADMU is exclusive for boys. On the other hand, the Senior High School welcomes females.
