Central Mindanao University (CMU) was first known as the Mailag Industrial School in 1910. After having numerous name changes, it had its final name change to Central Mindanao University by virtue of Republic Act 4498 in 1965.

CMU has nine (9) colleges and several graduate programs. While their focus is on Agriculture and Environmental Science, they do offer courses in Education, Business Administration, and Information Technology, making their curriculum holistic and modern.  

CMU is one of the top universities in the Philippines, as reported by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd). This university offers an affordable education considering that many of its students are children of farmers, and is one of the lowests in the country.
