Established in 1948 as the Tagum Catholic High School, the St. Mary's College of Tagum (SMCT) is now a private Catholic institution that accommodates academic programs from primary to tertiary education.

Under its belt are undergraduate programs in Business, Teacher Education, Criminal Justice Education, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Engineering, and Computer Studies. In addition to these are their graduate school programs which include a Master's degree in Education, Nursing, and Business Administration. Students who are aspiring to be a lawyer can also enroll in the college as it offers a law degree under its College of Law.

Ever since the school was established, it has gone through major developmental changes. But despite that, the college remained steadfast in providing significant and productive academic instruction for its students. And this has been reflected in the quality of graduates that the school has produced, as well as with the recognition that they have received from various education accrediting agencies.
