What does The University of Adelaide stand for?


University of Adelaide was founded 143 years ago and is the first university in Australia. Upon its foundation, its goal, for South Australia was to develop young leaders shaped by education rather than wealth in a community free of of the inequalities set by society and religion. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in arts, medicine, science, engineering, architecture, business, law, and computer science. 

University of Adelaide, thoughout its history, has received many regognitions and a reputation of many "firsts". Times Higher Education, QS World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) has consistently ranked the university in the top 1% of the world's universities. Aside from being the first university in Australia, it was the first Australian university to establish a Conservatorium of Music, a Chair of Music and a Doctor of Music. The first female to become Queen's Counsel, Supreme Court Judge and Governor of an Australian state (SA), Dame Roma Mitchell, was graduate of this institution. Nobel prize awardees, Sir William Lawrence Bragg, Sir Howard Walter Florey and John Robin Warren were all graduates of University of Adelaide.
