What does The University of Texas at Austin stand for?

The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) is a public university in Austin, Texas. The university opened for enrollment in 1883 and is the oldest and the flagship institution of the University of Texas System. The main campus is situated on a land area spanning 431 acres. The campus actually holds 17 libraries, making it the seventh largest academic library in the United States.

UT Austin provides a total of 156 undergraduate degree programs, 139 graduate degree programs, and 98 doctoral programs. Some of its top-ranking programs are in Engineering, Business, Communication, Liberal Arts, and Biological Sciences. The university also has a strong concentration on research, and for the past 10 fiscal years, it had a total of 786 US and international patents issued.

The University of Texas at Austin has been providing higher education programs for more than a century, and since then it continues to take part in the progress of the community. Two of the university's core values are discovery and individual opportunity; and, this is demonstrated through an inclusive campus culture.   • UT Austin's athletic teams are the Texas Longhorns or the Horns, and they participate in the Big 12 Conference of the NCAA's Division I. The university mascot is a Texas longhorn steer named Bevo; there have been a total of 15 Bevos, with Bevo XV presented in September 2016.
  • The school has a replica Civil War artillery cannon that is fired whenever Texas Longhorn football players have a game.
  •  UT Austin has another famous instrument displayed in games: Big Bertha. Big Bertha is an 8-feet bass drum that is almost a hundred years old. During football games, a group called the "Bertha Crew" presents Big Birtha to the crowd.
