In 1988, the former New South Wales Institute of Technology became the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) following the commencement of the University of Technology, Sydney, Act. It is one of the largest universities in Australia with a total enrollment of over 40 000 students.
UTS offers more than 100 undergraduate programs and more than 200 postgraduate programs in various areas of study such as business, international studies, architecture, communication, built environment, information technology, education, law, engineering, nursing, midwifery, science, and pharmacy. Following its model of global practice-oriented learning, many of its students undertake professional practice during their degree. UTS also exchange agreements with more than 185 universities in almost 40 countries and its students have the opportunity to study in one of these schools.
